Advancing Cellular-Based Medicine Through Clinical Research

About Maule Stem Cell Research Institute

The Maule Stem Cell Research Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to conducting IRB-approved clinical research investigating advanced stem cell therapies for chronic disease.

Who We Are

Our studies focus on neurologic, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and other complex conditions, with the goal of understanding how these therapies may influence functional recovery, independence, and quality of life in individuals who are often told there are no remaining treatment options.

At Maule Research, we believe that improving how people live is as important as how long they live. Through the generosity of our donors, veterans, first responders, and individuals facing financial hardship are able to participate in our programs without charge.

Because veterans and first responders have already sacrificed enough.

Founder's Opening Statement

The future of medicine is moving beyond symptom management and lifelong dependency on pharmaceuticals. It is moving toward drug-free, nonsurgical, clinically studied stem cell therapies designed to restore function, relieve suffering, and improve quality of life.

At the Maule Stem Cell Research Institute, our work is grounded in IRB-approved clinical research, focused not on forming drugs or commercial therapeutics, but on studying how stem cell therapies may modify disease progression and restore lost function in patients living with chronic, degenerative, and inflammatory conditions.

Our understanding of stem cell science is still evolving. Yet emerging clinical evidence supports the potential for meaningful improvements across conditions affecting the heart, brain, lungs, gastrointestinal system, musculoskeletal system, and immune system—particularly in patients for whom conventional medicine offers little more than symptom control.

We focus on what matters most to patients and veterans alike:

Relief from chronic pain

Restoration of mobility and independence

Improved cognitive clarity and daily function

Improved pulmonary capacity and exertional tolerance

The ability to return to daily life with dignity

This Institute exists because too many men and women—especially those who served—are told there is nothing more that can be done. Our work challenges that assumption through disciplined clinical investigation, ethical oversight, and outcome-based care.

Our Mission

Where Clinical Research Changes How Life is Lived

The mission of the Maule Stem Cell Research Institute is to conduct rigorous clinical research investigating stem cell–based therapies and their potential to influence biological repair, immune signaling, and measurable improvements in how life is lived for individuals living with chronic disease.

A central focus of the Institute is serving veterans and first responders—individuals who have dedicated their lives to protecting others and who too often return with complex, chronic conditions as a result of that service.

Collaboration & Impact

We unite physicians, researchers, legal and ethical scholars, and biomedical engineers to educate the next generation of physicians—and to deliver breakthroughs for patients today.

Advancing clinical research that restores function, dignity, and hope.

Dr. Cynthia S. Maule

Founder, Maule Stem Cell Research Institute | President, American Academy of Stem Cell Physicians (AASCP)

Dr. Cynthia S. Maule is a board-certified family medicine physician and a nationally recognized leader in regenerative medicine, with over 20 years of clinical experience. She is the founder of the Maule Stem Cell Research Institute — the first dedicated stem cell therapy and research center in Sarasota County — where she spearheads cutting-edge research and develops advanced treatments for chronic, degenerative, and autoimmune conditions, as well as pioneering work in anti-aging and regenerative aesthetics.

Dr. Maule earned her undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota in 1996, during which she conducted advanced biomedical research at Harvard University under the mentorship of Dr. Betty Hayes. She completed her master's degree in 1998 with a specialized focus on neuro-endocrinology and biomedical research.

Dr. Maule then earned her medical degree from the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota — known for its emphasis on stem cell research — and completed her residency in family medicine in 2005.

In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr. Maule serves as President of the American Academy of Stem Cell Physicians (AASCP), a role that underscores her influence and expertise in the field of regenerative medicine.

Stewardship

Governance & Responsibility

The Maule Stem Cell Research Institute was founded on the principle that scientific advancement carries a profound responsibility—to patients, to donors, and to the integrity of medicine itself.

Our work is governed not by urgency or ambition, but by structure, oversight, and accountability.

Our Distinction

Our Distinction

The Maule Stem Cell Research Institute was established to answer a question that most of modern medicine does not ask:

How do we restore function and quality of life in patients who are already living with disease?

Most biomedical innovation is structured around developing therapeutics—drugs, devices, or commercial biologics designed for regulatory approval and broad distribution. While that work is essential, it can leave behind patients whose conditions are chronic, complex, or no longer responsive to conventional intervention.

This Institute was created for those patients.

We are defined by the following principles:

Outcome-focused and responsibly studied

We research functional improvement—such as a veteran walking with less pain, breathing more easily, or regaining independence—through disciplined, IRB-approved clinical research.

Clinically grounded

All research is conducted under CITI certification and FDA Clinical Good Practice (CGP/GCP) alignment, with ethical oversight and patient safety as the foundation.

Patient-first by design

We design research around patient-identified priorities related to function, comfort, and quality of life.

Veteran-centered in mission

Veterans and first responders are a central focus, reflecting a responsibility to those who have carried the burden of service and often face limited remaining options.

Our Vision

A World Without Limits

We envision a future where stem cell therapies are widely accessible, providing transformative treatments for chronic illnesses, injuries, and degenerative conditions. Through education, research, and collaboration, we aim to redefine the standard of care for patients worldwide.
